The new factory is being built at Gummidipoondi, on the outskirts of Chennai, where the business already operates several recycling factories. The facility is planned to be operational by September 2024.
The factory will have a monthly Zorba processing capacity of 10,000 tonnes. The factory will have a monthly alloy production capacity of 3000 tonnes in the first phase. Excess Zorba processing capacity would be utilized to leverage alloy producing capabilities, either in the same facility or in satellite facilities planned for South India near massive die-casters for molten metal supply.
The factory will have four melting furnaces with a capacity of ten tonnes. Moreover, the facility will also include a mass-media separation technology for optimal Zorba processing. In addition, a cutting-edge lab has been designed, replete with spectrometers for determining composition, microscopes for microstructure analysis, K mould tests to examine inclusion levels in the alloy, vacuum testing machines to verify the quantity of dissolved gas in the alloy, and so on.
